Who’s on the other side

I’ve coached around 2,000 players. I have no connection to the one coaching yours.

Fifteen years coaching in Spain, the United States, Dubai, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and South Africa — and a UEFA Pro licence, the highest coaching qualification in Europe.

The pattern never changed. The parents weren’t the problem — they cared enormously. But nobody had ever told them what normal looks like. A ten-year-old carrying his father’s nerves onto the field. A talented fifteen-year-old who quit and couldn’t explain why. A car ride home that did more damage than the defeat.

When it’s outside my field, I bring in the specialists I work with in Europe — nutrition, psychology, physical preparation, academy directors, professional coaches and players.

$49 a month feels expensive for an online program.

Then you’re right, and this isn’t for you. It only makes sense if you’re already putting thousands into a season and want to know whether any of it is working. If $49 is the biggest number in your soccer year, keep it.

I already get information from my club.

Good. Keep using it. Your club knows its own program better than anyone. It just can’t tell you whether that program is the right one for your son.

I can find all of this online for free.

You can. That’s the problem, not the solution. The Facebook groups, YouTube, the other parents at the field — you’ll get four answers to every question and no way of knowing which one is for your son. You’re not paying me for information. You’re paying me to tell you which part of it applies to you.

What can a European coach tell me about the American system?

Fair question. Three years coaching in more than 100 cities across 25 US states, and years inside European academies watching how American players compare. Decide for yourself whether that’s worth $49.

My son isn’t going to Europe or turning professional.

Neither are most of the families in here. If you came looking for someone to tell you he’s the next one, this is the wrong place.

I already pay for a private coach. Do I need both?

Depends on the coach. If he’s good, keep him too…

I don’t have time for another online program.

Then don’t treat it like one. Nothing is scheduled, so there is nothing to keep up with. Open it when you have a decision to make. Ignore it the rest of the month.

My partner wouldn’t understand paying for this.

Show them what one private session costs. If you both still think it isn’t worth it, it probably isn’t.

Waiting is a decision too. The club, the league and the age group get settled between eleven and fourteen, usually on very little information. Those calls are coming whether you are ready or not.
